Avalon is a charitable trust which provides services to disadvantaged individuals with barriers to inclusion in the Bay of Plenty region.
Avalon works with individuals and their circles of support, to identify and map out pathways towards a good life of their choosing.
The work of the Avalon facilitators is informed by the principles of Enabling Good Lives; Social Role Valorisation (SRV) and “The Lightest Touch”.
Avalon works alongside disadvantaged individuals to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities. We aim to reduce barriers to inclusion in their community and support the development of valued roles so they can live an ordinary life of their choosing.

Domains of a Good Life
In mapping out the good life of your choosing an Avalon facilitator will work with you to gain a full understanding of your strengths, passions, challenges and aspirations in seven domains.
Each domain has several components and your facilitator will assist you along a progressive pathway to achieve your goals.
The work in each domain is tailored to the unique requirements of each individual and wherever possible community solutions and natural supports are utilized.
Well Being – Tinana/Hinengaoro
Being well in yourself mentally, emotionally and physically is the cornerstone of a happy and healthy life.
Self-Agency – Tino Rangatiratanga
Nothing about me without me. Personal sovereignty is being in control of what really matters in your own life and being able to represent and advocate for your own choices.
Relationships – Whanaungatanga
Relationship with self, family, friends, others, and the community. Avalon connects you with all the important people in your life.
Creative Leisure – Auahatanga
Gain pleasure and accomplishment in pursing creative and fulfilling leisure time.
Independence – Mana Motuhake
Being independent with or without support creates freedom to a world of possibilities.
Home – KaingaTurangawaewae
What is a home? Home is where you can be yourself, relax, enjoy, create, share and just be you in your authentic life.

Employment and contribution are closely aligned with self-esteem as is obtaining control of your financial life.
